Privacy Policy — Fertility Lens
Last updated: 2026-05-05
Plain-language summary
Fertility Lens is built to work without collecting personal information.
- We do not require an account.
- We do not run analytics or include any third-party tracking SDKs.
- We do not sell, share, or rent your data — we don’t have it to sell.
- Your scan history, life-stage selection, and any photos you scan stay on your device.
- The only network requests the app makes are anonymous barcode lookups against three public ingredient databases, and the In-App Purchase flow handled by Apple.
Information stored on your device
The following is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple’s standard on-device storage (SwiftData and UserDefaults). It never leaves your device and we have no access to it:
- Scan history — for each scan: timestamp, product name (when returned by a barcode lookup), brand, barcode digits, the raw ingredient text we read or fetched, and the IDs of any flagged ingredients. Free users see the last 30 days; subscribers see all history.
- Life-stage selection — your answer to the onboarding question (Trying to Conceive, Pregnant, Planning Ahead, or Prefer Not to Say). This is stored only on your device and is used solely to personalize ingredient ranking on screen.
- Acknowledgement of the medical disclaimer.
- Subscription status (whether you have an active Fertility Lens+ subscription) — cached from Apple’s StoreKit so the app can respond instantly on launch.
Deleting the app deletes all of this. We retain no copy.
Information sent over the network
Fertility Lens makes outbound network requests in only two situations:
1. Barcode lookups
When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent over HTTPS to one or more of the following public, non-profit databases until a match is found:
- Open Food Facts —
https://world.openfoodfacts.org - Open Beauty Facts —
https://world.openbeautyfacts.org - Open Products Facts —
https://world.openproductsfacts.org
Each request contains only the barcode digits and a generic User-Agent string. No personal information, device identifier, or location is included. The receiving service can see your IP address as part of any normal HTTPS request — see each service’s own privacy notice (linked at openfoodfacts.org/legal).
If you tap the optional “Search the web for this barcode” button on the not-found screen, iOS opens your default browser with a public web-search URL containing the barcode. From that point onward, the search engine’s privacy policy applies.
2. In-App Purchases (subscriptions)
Subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple’s StoreKit. Apple receives the payment information; we do not. We receive only the anonymized transaction records that Apple shares with all developers (subscription started, renewed, refunded, or cancelled). We do not receive your Apple ID, email, billing address, or payment details. Apple’s privacy policy is at apple.com/legal/privacy.
Apple may also provide us with aggregate, anonymized analytics through App Store Connect (downloads, crashes, app sessions). You can opt out of sharing these with developers in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share With App Developers.
Camera and photo library
If you grant camera access, the camera is used only to scan barcodes and ingredient labels live. Frames are processed entirely on-device by Apple’s Vision framework.
If you are a Fertility Lens+ subscriber and tap “Library,” you can pick a single photo from your photo library to scan. The selected image is processed on-device by Apple’s Vision framework. Photos and any text extracted from them are not uploaded anywhere.
We do not request access to your full photo library — Apple’s PhotosPicker returns only the single image you select, and we do not retain it after analysis.
Sensitive categories
Because Fertility Lens involves fertility and pregnancy, we treat the data described above as sensitive even though it never leaves your device. We have designed the app so that no fertility status, scan history, or ingredient analysis is ever transmitted to us or any third party. The only data that ever leaves your device is the barcode digits described above and the StoreKit transaction with Apple.
Children
Fertility Lens is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Your rights and choices
- Erase your data. Delete the app from your device. All scan history, preferences, and cached subscription state are removed with the app.
- Cancel a subscription. iOS Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions, or via the in-app “Manage subscription” link. Cancelling a subscription does not delete any data — that requires deleting the app.
- Opt out of analytics shared with developers. iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
- Request information or contact us. Email
contact@fertility-lens.com. Because we do not collect personal information, we generally have nothing to provide in response to a data-access request, but we will respond to confirm.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above and note the change in the app’s release notes. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
